The ‘Coder’ type

“Do you game ? I bet you game a lot. You have a gaming PC don’t you ? Yea that’s the coder type. Love gaming”

That’s the usual interaction I get when someone brings up gaming and finds out I’m a software engineer. I don’t. Don’t get me wrong; I like gaming, but ever since I got in the software and spend most of my day staring at a screen for work, the last thing I’ve been drawn to doing when I get home is to turn on another screen and start gaming on that. Are other software and IT people like that as well or am I just the black sheep.

I guess that’s why I see Victoria BC as the next tech hub for myself. The city is investing a lot into technology and tech firms and it’s surrounded by nature. My free time is outside. In the calm of nature. A calm I have grown to need.

I don’t know if I need to see a psychiatrist about this or if I should be more in a meditative state when I pray but my problem solving mind and thoughts can get overwhelming. Maybe they are panic attacks but I get to the point where staring at a screen my mind just starts racing and all I can desire is how to turn it out. Pull the plug on my mind, restart and get rid of all the noise.

So I’m not the coder type, I love my job but the noise gets to be a lot, I need the calm of nature to balance it all out.
